WE ARE HIRING: Wear OS Developer (UI & Backend Integration)
About the RoleWe are looking for an experienced Wear OS Developer to join our team to implement UI updates and integrate new backend endpoints for upcoming features in our Wear OS application. The role involves working closely with our design, backend, and QA teams to ensure smooth delivery of a polished, performant, and user-friendly wearable experience.Responsibilities
- Implement UI updates and refinements based on provided Figma/design specifications.
- Develop and integrate new app functionality by consuming REST/GraphQL backend endpoints.
- Optimize UI performance for Wear OS constraints (battery, screen size, interaction patterns).
- Ensure consistent design language and responsiveness across different watch models.
- Collaborate with backend engineers to define API requirements and handle edge cases.
- Conduct code reviews, write clean and maintainable Kotlin/Java code.
- Test features thoroughly, fix bugs, and ensure stability for release.
- Follow best practices for Wear OS development, including offline data handling and background tasks.
Requirements
- 3+ years Android development experience, with 1+ year specifically on Wear OS.
- Strong knowledge of Kotlin (Java is a plus).
- Experience with Android Jetpack, Compose for Wear OS (preferred), and Material Design for wearables.
- Familiarity with RESTful APIs, JSON parsing, and network libraries (Retrofit, OkHttp).
- Understanding of wearable-specific UX patterns and constraints.
- Experience with asynchronous programming (Coroutines, Flow).
- Knowledge of app lifecycle and background processing in Wear OS.
- Familiarity with Git version control.
Nice to Have
- Experience with health/fitness APIs (e.g., Google Fit).
- Knowledge of Bluetooth/companion device data syncing.
- Experience writing unit/UI tests (JUnit, Espresso).
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines for Android apps.
- Experience with wearOS shortcuts
